COP, EER and kW/ton converter
Convert cooling efficiency between COP, EER (Btu/Wh) and kW/ton for chillers, heat pumps and air conditioners, with the formulas and a comparison table.
Cooling efficiency
Formula
Common values
| kW/ton | COP | EER |
|---|---|---|
| 0.45 | 7.82 | 26.67 |
| 0.5 | 7.03 | 24 |
| 0.55 | 6.39 | 21.82 |
| 0.6 | 5.86 | 20 |
| 0.7 | 5.02 | 17.14 |
| 0.8 | 4.4 | 15 |
| 1 | 3.52 | 12 |
| 1.2 | 2.93 | 10 |
| 1.5 | 2.34 | 8 |
COP and EER rise as efficiency improves, while kW/ton falls. A chiller at 0.6 kW/ton has a COP of about 5.9.
These formulas convert ratings taken at the same conditions. Seasonal or part-load ratings such as SEER or IPLV use other test conditions, so they cannot be converted with these formulas alone.
