Electricity to charge ice storage calculator

Charging COP must refer to net cooling placed in storage, including the losses specified in that boundary. The coefficients convert ton-hours to Btu and Btu to kWh.

Units
Ein=12,000×C3412×COPchE_{\text{in}} = \frac{12{,}000 \times C}{3412 \times \mathrm{COP}_{\text{ch}}}

Worked example

Given

  • CC = 420 ton·h
  • COPch\mathrm{COP}_{\text{ch}} = 3.1 ratio
Ein=12,000×4203412×3.1≈476.5E_{\text{in}} = \frac{12{,}000 \times 420}{3412 \times 3.1} \approx 476.5
